About 40% of children under 5 years of age have growth problems due to nutritional insufficiency.
More than 90% of the population survives on less than € 200 per month.
You will support a team of teachers, involving yourself with the students and helping with the ones with special needs. Also, you will impart them classes according to the school pensum. You have to be proactive and introduce dynamic education methods that help students learn in a fun, but also effective way.
You will be around children doing playful and sporty activities so they can improve their qualities and also to encourage their abilities to overcome them. We help them while they eat and shower the little babies. We like to involve ourselves in restoration activities, painting and renovating the orphanage structure. Our goal is that the kids can have a better home!
You will support the nursing area, involving yourself in tasks. Apart from this you will get to treat patients and follow their improvements. You will help with the nursing material, keeping it in proper conditions for interventions, supporting doctors and the space around.
As a coach you will be promoting sport activities, involving yourself in monitoring different exercises. Your role will establish various training routines, according to every kind of sport.
Between your functions you will have to manage and form teams to do a very fun championship during the summer!
Geography: Sri Lanka is an independent island in southern India. Due to the country’s geographical position, on the main shipping lanes, Sri Lanka is a strategic naval link, apart from being a centre of ancient Buddhist religion and culture.
Government: Sri Lanka is a democratic regime and the government is a mixture of presidential and parliamentary system.
Population: The majority of the population is Sinhalese which is Sri Lanka’s largest ethnic group with more than 15 million, followed by the Tamils who are an Indian ethnic group and the Arabs.
Language: The official languages are Sinhalese, mother tongue for 80% of the population,, Tamil 10%, and English is a mother tongue for 10% of the population but is widely understood and spoken.
Religion: The majority of the population is Buddhist, although Hindu, Muslim and Christian religions are also common.
Climate: The climate in Sri Lanka is tropical. The temperature range is from 15 °C in the Central Highlands to 32 °C on the north-east coast. In January, the coolest month, many people wear coats and sweaters in the highlands and elsewhere. The hottest period precedes the monsoon rains of summer.
The volunteer managements cost 250 € apart from the volunteering price.

The experience last 3 weeks, in which we take two days for immersion into the culture and three more days to do tourism.
In case you can only take 15 days, you will be able to do it as long as you arrive in the same date with the other helpers. You have the option to come back before, the price remains the same.
